Detailed Work Experience

Jul 75 – Sep 76

Bay de Noc Community College, Escanaba, MI

Veterans Coordinator

While a full-time student at this Community College, I was also a full-time employee of the college, responsible for operations of the Office of Veterans Affairs.  I assisted 450 active individuals in applying for and receiving GI Bill benefits for college attendance, working directly with the Veterans Administration in Detroit.  While in this position, I reorganized office procedures to decrease the number of problem cases and minimize processing time.  I composed an Operational Handbook for future persons in this position.  I left voluntarily to continue my education in electronics and to pursue my Bachelor of Science degree.

Aug 77 – Apr 00

Nolan Broadcast Group, Austin, MN

Engineering Manager, FM Program Director, General Manager

I accepted the position of Chief Engineer of KAUS AM & FM the Monday after the Friday that I completed college.  My responsibilities included the maintenance and repair of all studio and RF transmitting equipment for the 1000 watt AM station and the 100,000 watt FM station.  In Dec 78, the radio stations changed ownership.  In the years that followed, all studios were rebuilt and new equipment was installed throughout.  I was responsible for recommending for purchase and the subsequent installation and maintenance of all equipment.  I estimate that I’ve installed and interconnected via networking hardware and software over 100 PC computers.  I continued in this capacity until Apr 88, when I assumed the position of FM Program Director, in addition to retaining my engineering duties.  As FM Program Director, I oversaw the station’s on-air content relative to music, news, weather, sports, including the hiring and training of any new announcing positions.  I also coordinated all outside services such as audio networks and syndicated programming.  In Jan 93, KEEZ FM, a 100,000 watt FM station in Mankato, MN, was acquired, adding a third station to my engineering responsibilities.  I was named General Manager of stations KAUS AM & FM in Apr 96, concurrent with the engineering duties of the three-station group.  In Apr 00, the group was sold to Three Eagles Communications of Lincoln, NE.

Apr 00 – Aug 01

Three Eagles Communications, Lincoln, NE

Corporate Engineer

Under this corporation, I was responsible for the maintenance and repair of twelve (12) stations, four (4) AM and eight (8) FM, in seven (7) locations in Minnesota and six (6) locations in Iowa.  This included all studio equipment, RF transmitting plants and associated towers.  While doing so, I traveled an average of 3300 miles per month to service these locations.  From Aug 00 – Apr 01, I coordinated the construction of an 854 foot tower including the physical plant, all systems within and the surrounding property to relocate the transmitting facilities of KEEZ-FM, Mankato, MN.

Aug 01 – Present

Broadcast Technical Solutions, Austin, MN

Independent Consulting/Contract Engineer

I own and operate my own business as a radio station consulting and contract engineer for stations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.  As an independent, I am hired to install, maintain and/or repair various studio and transmitting equipment.  I have further experience in the construction of new and/or rebuilding existing facilities, coordinating closely with other support groups.  I maintain an on-going knowledge of computer operating systems, networking and software.

General Knowledge and Professional Attributes

I possess a complete knowledge of the radio broadcasting industry.  I have stayed up-to-date by attending semi-annual conferences with the Minnesota Broadcasters Association and annual conventions of the National Association of Broadcasters.  I maintain a working knowledge of broadcast engineering including skills in the installation, setup, repair and networking of computers as it relates to the broadcast industry.  I have strong organizational and planning skills and have demonstrated the ability to manage people in a business environment.  I have a sincere desire to be involved in community and civic leadership.  In doing so, I have served as Director on the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce board, the SPAMTownδ USA Festival committee, Director and President, Austin Youth Hockey Association, Director, Austin Youth Baseball Association, Director, Austin Bowling Association and various other volunteer committee positions.
